2012 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Grosse Lage

S.A Prüm is a family-owned wine estate nestled on the banks of Germany’s serene Mosel River, at the heart of the country’s celebrated Mosel growing region. Here, the Prüm family has cultivated vines for over 200 years. The estate has been in the hands of Raimund Prüm, owner and winemaker, since 1971 when he assumed full management. Under his leadership, the property has become one of the region’s most successful wineries, boasting an international reputation for the production of exquisite Rieslings.

Production Area

The soil of this famous domain, which has recently been designated an Erste Lage – or top vineyard site by the VDP – is comprised of Devonian gray slate, and soft slate with a high tin content, which adds a distinctive, fresh minerality to the wines. This is one of the best vineyard in the Mosel River, with a southerly aspect. The altitude is between 130-330 meters, with a steep 60% slope. The mountains’ treeline, rising above the vineyards, blocks cold winds from entering the valley.
