2013 Chianti Classico DOCG
Founded in 1974, Querciabella enjoys the acclaim of the world’s most discriminating critics and consumers for wines such as Camartina, Batàr, Palafreno and Querciabella Chianti Classico. In its uncompromising pursuit of quality, sustainability and authenticity, Querciabella has continually honed its approach to bio-dynamic viticulture for over a decade. With vineyards located throughout Tuscany’s Chianti Classico and Maremma areas, Querciabella exemplifies the mindful preservation of tradition through forward-thinking, albeit completely natural, winemaking.
These vineyards have been cultivated organically since 1988, and in 2000 have undergone a full conversion to bio-dynamic techniques. Twelve months in fine to extra fine-grained French oak barriques (5% new) from Allier.
The growing season included a cool spring with abundant rainfall, followed by moderate summer heat and warm autumn temperatures, allowing grapes to ripen gradually through the end of October. This extended, more ‘traditional’, hang time, compared to recent vintages, produced harmonious and balanced wines.
Rich cherry flavors are underscored by a firm structure in this intense, powerful red. Tightfisted tannins carry the finish for now, but there is ample sweet fruit and lively acidity for the future. A lovely “semi-modern” Chianti: Pure, dark fruited, with nice notes of warm, red, tuscan earth. Enough "rusticity" to let you know it's real Chianti, but with plenty of fruit, purity and polish to know that there is a seriously good winemaking team behind it.
