Rosso del Bepi IGT 2005
The late Maestro del Veneto, Giuseppe Quintarelli, succeeded in establishing his mythical and legendary estate during an amazing sixty-year career. All of the tradition, love, heart, and soul of crafting one of the world’s finest wines continue at the Quintarelli home and winery in the hills north of Verona. Giuseppe’s wife Franca, his daughter Fiorenza, his son-in-law Giampaolo, and his grandsons Francesco and Lorenzo are all keeping a close watch over the family’s legacy. Robert Parker describes the wines as “objects of desire among the world’s most well heeled collectors”.

Quintarelli Amarone is only produced in truly exceptional years. In years considered ordinary in quality the wine is declassified and bottled as Rosso del Bepi. In those years deemed unworthy there is no production of Amarone or Rosso del Bepi at all. The grapes are selected with great care at the time of harvest, brought into a conservation room and left to rest in wooden boxes and on rush matting.
It is very important that the grapes are positioned correctly so that the passerillage raising can take place in a complete and natural way. The first sign of “noble rot” appears at the end of November - beginning of December and develops mostly in the month of January. Pressing begins at the end of January and after 20 days of maceration, the alcoholic fermentation begins, thanks to indigenous yeasts. This fermentation takes place very slowly and lasts for 45 days. Afterwards the wine is racked and placed in medium to small Slavonian oak barrels where it matures for seven years.
This wine begins with a glorious nose, followed by power, concentration, and explosive energy, with dark cherry, leather, and spice, its tannins a perfect blend of smoothness and thickness. Another one for the ages from Quintarelli. A harmonious, mineral-infused wine with a wonderful elegance in its dark red fruit, cocoa, spices, sage, and crushed flowers. This is a beautifully rich, concentrated red with gorgeous length, finessed tannins and superb overall balance.

Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC 2009This balanced yet complex red shows aromas of dried sage, Indian spice, crushed white pepper and delicate forest berry. On the palate, the wine is bright, crisp and intense, but never heavy or syrupy.
Perhaps one of the best representations of what a great traditional Valpolicella can taste like. A benchmark for quality wines in a region that has hundreds of producers aiming at volume production.
